5Th Element and TOM.AS.WILL are a musical duo combining their two individual, unique styles to create one massive, hip-hop, breakbeat, trippy Brazilian dance type feel! Understandably, this is quite hard to try and imagine without actually hearing their music, so luckily we have samples of their work from there up and coming album, available to preview and purchase right here, right now.
5Th Element and TOM.AS.WILL both started in very different places. Neither of them intending to be where they are today. 5Th Element made his way through school never having any interest in pursuing music, apart from the set of headphones in his ears every waking hour soothing a less than healthy obsession with main steam hip-hop, he always wanted to be a pro-basketball player, despite unlikeliness of ever making a good living off playing a sport professionally, his common sense took a back seat to his passion, and not being the type to give up he'd pursue it relentlessly. Until one day, while playing basketball he severely damaged his lower back, which put him out of action indefinitely, despite attempts to try and play again his injury wouldn't allow him to continue playing. While battling with depression, he spent most of his time listening to music and writing his own lyrics based on the anger in him about his situation. Around this time he was facing the end of school with no idea what to do, no college lined up and no career path, he had fallen face first into exactly where he didn't want to be. At this time on a trip to Hong Kong his life took a dramatic u-turn after an experience in a Buddhist temple there. Following which he turned a lot of his outward anger and attention inwards, and his writing style changed from the traditional angry hip-hop rap. To more refreshing lyrics about life and people. This lead to a renewed belief in himself and he began to make his own beats at home sell them at school just before he left. This lead to him hearing about a music academy called the ACM, he applied for a course in stage performance, as with no musical knowledge or background it's all he could pull off, but he got on. However the course was cancelled. They offered him a scholarship into any other one of their subjects as compensation, but none suited him apart from a music production course, so with no back up plan or better option he accepted the course by default and left his home in Staines at 16 to live in Guilford so he could attend the college. Coming in right at the bottom of the class with no idea what a music producer was or even how he was going to make it through the first year he jumped in head first and pretended his way through the first few weeks on no musical knowledge but a ton of lyrics to throw out. Here is where he met TOM.AS.WILL and they began to make music together.
TOM.AS.WILL started with very different intentions. He always had a great love and passion for music. And from a very young age knew he wanted to work with music, but was never sure on the direction he should take it. At the age of twelve he invested in his own DJ-ing equipment which fed his passion from a small fixation to a full out obsession, and he started getting deeper into the music scene, pretty soon he was playing parties and larger gigs. This lead to him realizing that he could make a good living in music if he were to just stick with it. He felt by this stage that he needed to broaden his musical horizons if he were to ever make a living out of his music, so by the time he came to leave school he had all his options laid out in front of him, unfortunately there was only one. Because, at this stage of his life the only financial reality was for him to attend the Brit school or performing arts. But being one to never get disheartened when it came to his music he went for it, unfortunately never sealing a place with them due to lack of experience needed to qualify for the course, this left his situation very open ended. Again not to be disheartened, He took a music and media course at his local college to gain the experience he needed and at the same time decided to join a band. Everything was starting to work out, however, by the end of the year the band were starting to play less and less and slit up due to people not having similar passions for the music and the course had come to an end, so again he had to strategically plan his next move, how was he going to progress? And having come this far, was not going to turn away. Fortunately his year at college had lead to him hearing about the music academy, ACM. This time with the experience under his belt and the absolute need to get on the course, he managed to get in. following recent disappointments in attempting to take a musical path, getting into the academy was like a breath of fresh air.
Here is where he met 5Th Element, and from literally day one they were talking and working together, combining their musical and lyrical talents to make fresh new music.
They have been working closely ever since, and spurred on by what had happened in their past they decided to make a record label designed specifically to help other bands and musicians in similar situation they faced, with no 'next step' in their musical careers, as a lot of good music dies that way. And they both felt passionately there needs to be a place people can feed, perfect and share their musical talents and passions!
So they created Elemental X Productions.
